Hi Just a newbie question Can i grain fill the whole guitar with clear filler or do i need to buy the different grain fillers to match the mahogony/rosewood/spruce Thanks |

There's no reason not to use clear, unless you are specifically after the look that tinted porefill can give. Probably the most common porefill these days is clear epoxy, or epoxy that is slightly Amber. |

Thanks for the advice guys . Alex the top is alpine spruce and is pretty pitted (grainy) needs something Cheers |

You should not require any pore filler on the top. If it's pitted, sand it better! Get it flat first before you start your finishing process. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You've already heard it and I know you listened. But, for the benefit of lurkers, allow me to repeat: Pore filler is for open pored woods (whether that filler is clear or colored). No pore filler required on woods without open pores. Ergo, no pore filler needed on woods like spruce, maple, cherry, etc. Even if your spruce top is "grainy" (not sure what you mean by that) I am certain it doesn't need pore filler. Maybe a spit coat of shellac and then sanded back. Something like that. But it doesn't need any sort of pore filler. Just my two cents' worth, you understand. |
